Formula: net = (deposit × bonus% ) − (deposit × bonus% × wagering × (1 − RTP))
The maths behind it
Clearing a wagering requirement means putting the required turnover through games that each return slightly less than they take. The expected cost of that turnover is the turnover multiplied by the house edge, which is one minus the RTP.
So the expected net value of a bonus is the bonus amount minus (bonus amount × wagering multiplier × house edge). When the wagering multiplier is high enough, that expression goes negative — the bonus costs more to clear than it is worth, which is why a large headline percentage is not automatically a good offer.
Why no-wagering rakeback changes the comparison
Set the wagering multiplier to zero and the expected cost term disappears entirely: the bonus is worth its face value because the funds are withdrawable without turnover. That is the structural reason a 15% rakeback with no wagering can beat a 200% match with 40×, even though the advertised number is more than ten times smaller.

Where the break-even sits
The break-even multiplier is one divided by the house edge. On 96% RTP games that is 25×; on 96.8% games it is about 31×. Above that, a deposit bonus has negative expected value no matter how large its percentage. That is worth knowing before you compare two offers, because the 40× requirements common in this vertical sit well past the break-even point on every RTP we track.
