Responsible Gambling

Gambling is entertainment, not a way to make money. If it stops being fun, free support is available — and most problems can be addressed before they escalate.

What Is Responsible Gambling

Responsible gambling means playing with full awareness of the risks, within limits you set before you start. The house always has a mathematical edge — over time, the expected outcome is a net loss. Every session should be treated as a cost of entertainment, not as income.

The key principles are:

Warning Signs

Problem gambling often develops gradually. The following signs suggest gambling may have moved from entertainment to harm:

One or more of these signs does not mean you have a disorder, but they are worth taking seriously. Speaking to a counsellor early makes resolution much easier.

Deposit And Loss Limits

Setting limits before you play is the single most effective harm-reduction tool available. Licensed casinos are required to offer deposit, loss, and session time limits; most will also let you set a cooling-off period or take a temporary break.

Recommended practice: Decide your monthly gambling budget in advance — an amount you would be comfortable spending on any entertainment — and set a deposit limit to match it. Once you reach that limit, treat it as final. Do not seek to increase limits in a moment of frustration.

Limit changes that increase your deposit cap typically take 24–72 hours to activate on licensed sites, which gives you time to reconsider. Decreases should take effect immediately.

Self-Exclusion Tools By Country

If you want a stronger brake than limits, self-exclusion blocks you from accessing participating gambling sites for a set period — typically from six months to five years, or permanently.

United Kingdom

GAMSTOP is the national self-exclusion scheme for UK-licensed casinos. Registering at GAMSTOP will block you from all UK Gambling Commission-licensed online gambling sites simultaneously. It is free and takes effect within 24 hours.

Spain

RGIAJ (Registro General de Interdicciones de Acceso al Juego) is the Spanish national exclusion register administered by DGOJ. Registering blocks access to all DGOJ-licensed online casinos in Spain. Applications can be submitted online or at DGOJ offices.

Canada

Self-exclusion in Canada is managed province by province. Each provincial gaming authority (e.g., OLG in Ontario, BCLC in British Columbia, Loto-Québec in Quebec) operates its own voluntary self-exclusion programme. Contact your provincial authority directly to enrol.

Australia

BetStop (National Self-Exclusion Register) launched in 2023 and covers all licensed interactive wagering services in Australia. You can register online at bethelponline.gov.au or through your state gambling authority.

Latin America

Regulated online casino markets in Latin America are emerging. If your country does not yet have a national exclusion register, consider using casino-level self-exclusion directly through your account settings, or contact a support organisation listed below.

Our Commitment

BetJudge is a review and comparison site, not a casino. We include responsible gambling disclosures in every page footer, clearly mark all affiliate links, and do not publish content designed to encourage excessive gambling. We follow the principle that gambling is an adult entertainment activity and we do not target or market to people who have indicated they may have gambling problems.

If you believe a casino we review is failing its responsible gambling obligations — for example, not providing limit-setting tools, ignoring self-exclusion requests, or targeting at-risk players — please contact us with details and we will investigate as part of our editorial process.
